Hilary Duff is crowned America's most royal celebrity

She may not top the list of most well known American celebrities, but Hilary Duff has been crowned the most royal of them all.

Duff, who rose to fame as the teenage star of Disney's "Lizzie McGuire," has stronger ties to royalty than any other celebrity, according to the genealogy experts at findmypast.com.

Duff is the 18th cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, also known as Will and Harry's grandma. Apparently, any celebrity who's actually in line for the throne was excluded from the list.

Duff narrowly beat out another former child star, Brook Shields, for the title. Shields is the queen's 18th cousin once removed, followed by Maggie and Jake Gyllenhall, the queen's 19th cousins. A complete list of the top 20 celebs with royal ties includes Michael Douglas, Ellen DeGeneres, and Uma Thurman.

The rankings are all a publicity ploy for the website's genealogy Facebook app, "Are You Related to the Queen?" So, if you're dying to know whether your bloodlines cross with Elizabeth's, there's an app for that.
