Hilary Duff rose to fame playing Lizzie McGuire on the popular Disney show. She told Piers Morgan in a new interview that childhood was hard, but she wouldnt trade it for anything else. But at the same time, she doesn't want her unborn child to do the same.
My sister and I really showed an interest in this [performing] and dedication, and [my mother] was like, How can I tell my kids no? Its the same as kids that are going into sports. Parents support them and push them, she said.
[I missed out on] stupid things like passing notes in school and having a locker and riding the bus. Once I started touring my life was very isolated, you know? I lost a lot of my friends, she added. I was on a totally different playing field than anybody else. And I grew up a lot faster, and I think that it definitely put me in a different place. But I wouldnt trade it.
But Duff, 24, who is expecting her first child, a baby boy, with hockey husband Mike Comrie, says though she had an amazing time as a young star, she says she doesnt want her son to follow in her footsteps because the industry has drastically changed since then.
I dont think theres a way to stop it I think kids know what they want but I just pray to God thats not what he [my son] wants, she added. From when I started to now, the industry is so different. I mean, theres such an obsession with peoples private lives that I really dont think was there before. These shows about digging into peoples lives and wanting to embarrass everybodyIts just so invasive, and its just a different business than it used t! o be.
