Hilary Duff wore an interesting 'do at a signing of her new book, Devoted. This wasn't a standard braid, however. Incorporated among the strands was a black leather strip. The unexpected element added an edginess to Hilary's casual, boho look.

To duplicate her style, begin by roughing up hair with fingers or misting with a product like Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray to create lots of texture. Next, sweep tresses to one side, divide into three equal sections and place the upper end of a leather strip or ribbon under the middle section, just above the ear. Secure the strip or ribbon with a hair elastic close to the scalp and begin loosely braiding.

If any strands fall out of the braid, they can be pulled back and secured with bobby pins behind the ear. When braiding is complete, secure ends with a hair elastic and wrap any excess leather strip or ribbon around it.
